Blog 3/10: 🐶 dawg with a blawg 🐶

The first moving picture ever was made in 1888 by Louis Le Prince. What Mr. Prince didn’t expect was that his invention would one day be used to make dogs talk. The titular example of this is one Stan the Dog from the hit Disney channel original show “Dog With a Blog.”

As the name might suggest, Stan is a dog who secretly writes an online blog at night when his human compatriots are asleep. He also happens to be able to speak English, which does not shock his owners nearly as much as it should when they discover this unfeasible phenomenon. Despite the show’s horrible ratings and unfavorable memory in the zeitgeist, I happened to enjoy it as a young child.

I was often fascinated by talking dogs in media, as displayed by my love for the “Beverley Hills Chihuahua” franchise. The “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” series revolves around a spoiled Chihuahua from California getting lost in Mexico and falling for a poor street dog. I recently had the displeasure of rewatching the third one (yes, there are three), and had forgotten how truly horrible some of the dog CGI is. Whoever animated these dogs saying those vile words should not be rehired by Disney.

Disney has a long track record of these talking CGI dogs, too! In more recent years, they featured a CGI talking dog in the “Descendants” franchise. Unfortunately, the dog makes the most unfunny jokes I’ve ever had the audacity of hearing. Very cute dog tho, if I may say so myself.

The most important dog, however, is the dawg that I got in me.

This is a warning that if you too want to indulge in some childhood nostalgia, do not go too deep into the rabbit hole of talking CGI dogs, or you might start to hate everything you watched in your youth.
