Blog 4/28: πŸ’—My Roman Empire: Barbie πŸ’—

Ever since I was a little girl, Barbie had always been my role model. I mean, let’s be real, she had like over 135 careers (at least according to an episode in Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse). I remember whenever I came back home from school, I would go to my DVD player connected to my SONY TV and put on a Barbie movie I had lying around. It didn’t matter to me that I had already watched the films multiple times, because each time was just as magical.

Becoming a college student, you can never get rid of that dreadful feeling as you move further away from your childhood. There are many things we were not willing to leave behind, but due to time passing, we had no choice but to mature. However, I have always been a firm believer in never losing that whimsy we had effortlessly when we were kids. Thus, Barbie movies became a getaway for me to become a young girl again as I put my stresses aside. Amongst the countless movies that have been produced, I gravitate towards a few specifically. Such examples include:

Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses – The soundtrack in this?? It’s the epitome of an ascension.

Barbie: Fairytopia – made the cut due to Bibble. He’s such an icon.

Barbie and The Three Musketeers – #girlpower. Has anyone seen the clips of Barbie and her friends entering the ball with the most diabolical names? The movie had its humor.

Barbie in A Mermaid Tale – basically Lush Life by Zara Larsson with a pink dolphin.

Barbie: A Fashion Fairytale – In my top two. The soundtrack is good with this one, especially the intro credit scene. One word to describe this movie: glitter!

Barbie: Princess Charm School – The best for last! This movie had everything. Hidden royalty/ Secret identity. Mean girl rival. Makeover. With a touch of romance.

At this point, I have fully accepted that Barbie movies are not just nostalgia for me β€” they’re a lifestyle. Kudos to YouTube and free websites that allow me to binge-watch the films and relive the magic all over again. My β€œRoman Empire” has yet to collapse.
