Blog 5/5: 🏎️ Why I Will Never Get A Drivers License đźŹŽď¸Ź

  1. Getting other people to drive me places is fun!

I love being a passenger princess. The only things I need to focus on is playing amazing music (which I always do, follow me on spotify @Scarlett) and taking a good nap. Honestly, the best place on Earth is that shotgun seat during a road trip, and no, I do not need a driver’s license for that. If anything, having a driver’s license would mean I never get to experience that again.

  1. I like being able to stick my head, hands and feet out the window.

Whether it’s every limb mentioned at the same time or separately, feeling the wind whip against  my hands, head and feet fills me with adrenaline. It gives me a moment to clear my mind and not think about anything other than the sensation of the air around me. I would recommend you all try it — with safety in mind so that you can’t list me as a reason you get injured, thanks!

  1. I’d rather travel by horse than car.

As someone who has done horseback riding for, like, five years, I would much rather travel by horse  —  that is, if everyone else was doing so as well, so it’s not weird. No, I don’t want to be Amish, and no, I’m not a Luddite. If anything, I’m a consumer and conformist:I own too many Labubus for anyone to argue otherwise.

  1. If I can get there by car, I can get there by any other mode of transportation.

Maybe this is not realistic, but hypothetically, let’s say I live in Brooklyn (the best borough). Getting a license to drive myself to Manhattan is pointless when I could easily take the train, bike, or walk.

  1. They’re ugly.

If it’s not a McLaren Formula 1 Car, I don’t want it (peep the header photo).

  1. Pollution.

Cars contribute to 28% of greenhouse gas emissions, and with our world dying and everything, we should definitely be cutting this down. Imagine if everyone couldn’t get a license and therefore cars went extinct. The trees would grow taller, the flowers more colorful, and the birds even chirpier. Now isn’t this the Euphoria that Jungkook sang about?

  1. I would definitely get road rage.

My patience is very thin. Even just waiting in line at HeyTea I get overstimulated. The second that someone accidentally bumps into me because there’s no room to stand, I feel the urge to start pushing everyone out of my way. This would be reflected in my driving awareness. If I was stuck in a traffic jam, it’s over for me and every car around me. If you know the saying “the light isn’t getting any greener, buddy,” I would basically embody that. Even thinking about being stuck in traffic right now with no end in sight, is getting me annoyed.

  1. It’s expensive.

This probably goes without saying, but buying or even renting a car is expensive, and I’m sure anyone who has ever thought of getting one knows this better than I do.

  1. I’m lazy.

Going through the process of getting my permit, then taking lessons to finally take the driving test, and praying I pass my first time around is just so time consuming. It requires time I don’t have, or time I could be spending doing something more worthwhile, like making money. Additionally, my now lazy attitude would multiply tenfold if I had my license and car. Rather than walk or take public transportation to places, I would just be driving there. I would probably never see the light of day again and my Vitamin D levels would drop drastically. Maybe I should change this header to “it’s bad for my health…”

  1. I don’t want an ugly ID.

I just hate taking ID photos in general because they never turn out the way I want them to, and I always look too serious or too messy or just overall CHOPPED. If I could just submit photos from my Instagram that would be a different story (follow me @scarlett.llk). Regardless, I can’t risk an ugly photo for a driver’s license, it’s not worth it.

Thank you for reading this all the way through, because I have one final thing to add. I really want my own car and a drivers license.
